I’ve been working on a new song for the past week. If I had to put a genre label on it, it would be Home-Made Pop. Here it is:
I wanted it to be short and sweet, happy-sounding (as many of my songs end up unintentionally bleak) and above all catchy.
There are A LOT of backing vocals in it, filling in gaps. My inspiration for this experiment was Bruno Mars’ latest album and its saturated production (see my review here).
Among the backing vocals are a few references to vocal moments from other things I’ve been listening to including Get Up, Stand Up by Bob Marley and Lennon’s backing ‘no no no no’s from Bowie’s cover of Across the Universe on Young Americans.
